The Pohutakawa Festival blooms again

The Pohutakawa Festival – a day of music, food and fun – is happening this Saturday in beautiful Whangapoua. The festival is put together by the Mangakāhia whānau on their ancestral whenua with the aim of raising money for their marae, which has been a multi-decade project for the whānau.

Roimata Taimana is just one of many musicians performing this Saturday in Whangapoua.

The festival will take place at the whānau campground which sits in a beautiful meadow next to the awa, just to the left of the New Chum–Wanuiototo carpark.

There will be live music going all day and the beach is only a hop, skip and a jump away for those who need a refereshing dip between sets.

There is an impressive line up of local musicians playing and there will be food and ice cream available (BYO drinks).

For the tamariki, look out for the lolly scrambles and face painting, and there will be koha haircuts if the tamariki are looking a little bit too wild this deep into a Coromandel summer!

This is the first time the festival has been held since pre-Covid and the whānau are excited to invite everyone to this family-friendly festival. See you under the pohutakawa this Saturday.
