Whitianga’s Biggest Irish Celebration Lands on the Waterfront
We all love celebrating St Patrick’s Day, and how lucky are we in Whitianga to have a proper party spot right on the water.
This year, Buffalo Beach Club is going all out – kicking things off on Saturday 14 March with The Grail playing Irish pub classics, then handing the stage to Twisty Willow, a Waipu Celtic duo bringing lively tunes and serious crowd energy, on Tuesday 17 March.

Both evenings you can expect famous Texas Pete’s BBQ bringing the flavour, top-notch cocktails and that unbeatable Buffalo Beach setting.
So we thought we’d share a few cool facts. That way, when you rock up on 17 March dressed in green, you’ll also be dressed in knowledge.
Did you know?
• St Patrick wasn’t actually Irish. He was born in Roman Britain, likely in what is now Wales or western England, in the late 4th century. As a teenager he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave. He later escaped, became a Christian missionary and returned to Ireland, where he played a major role in spreading Christianity.
• The shamrock became a symbol of Ireland because, according to legend, St Patrick used its three leaves to explain the idea of the Holy Trinity. Three leaves, one plant.
• St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17 March, the date believed to mark his death in 461 AD.
• Green wasn’t always the main colour. Early depictions of St Patrick show him wearing blue. Over time, green took over, thanks to Ireland’s nickname, the Emerald Isle, and its strong association with Irish identity and rebellion.
• The first St Patrick’s Day parade wasn’t in Ireland. It was held in the United States, organised by Irish immigrants who wanted to celebrate their heritage.
Today, the day is less about sermons and more about community, music, laughter and a bit of Irish spirit. It is a chance to gather your mates, raise a glass and enjoy good vibes.
And that is exactly what Buffalo Beach Club does best!
On 17 March, head down to Buffalo Beach Club for a proper St Patrick’s Day party in Whitianga. Expect great live music, flowing drinks, and their famous Texas Pete’s BBQ bringing the flavour. Add in top-notch cocktails and that beachfront setting, and you’ve got yourself one not to be missed.
Come in green. Come with your crew. Come ready to celebrate.
