Coromandel Bands on the Rise: Corrosive Moses Headlines at Whitianga Town Hall

Corrosive Moses, alongside three other bands — Commodore65, the band.com, Makeup Artists (Roimata, Andy, Steve, and Gabe) — plus DJ SunRay, rocked the Whitianga Town Hall on Saturday, 19 July.

A loud and excited crowd of almost 250 people turned up to support the band in their mission to press a vinyl for their ten-track album, produced by renowned NZ music producer Dave Rhodes, set to be released soon.

The night also marked the premiere of their latest music video for the single Buttercup.

Coromind collaborator Raewyn Watkins was there and shared some words about this epic night — read below!

On a cold July night, it would have been easy to stay home. However, I was glad that I did not … I took myself down to the Whitianga Town Hall to support a local band ‘Corrosive Moses’ video release party, with funds supporting their next tour.

What first struck me was the wide variety of ages in attendance, with a good turnout of people.

This was definitely a family evening , with teenagers on the floor enjoying a great vibe, whilst adults watched on or joining in themselves.

The hall was transformed into a nightclub, with a tropical, almost homely feel, of plants scattered throughout the venue, thanks to Chops Landscaping.

Drinks, plus hearty food was available, which was a nice touch.

Back to the music… I made it in time to catch Commodore65 from Thames, of which I wasn’t familiar, however glad to of seen them. They were energetic and connected with their audience.

We were then treated to the video release of ‘Buttercup’ from Corrosive Moses, prior to them taking to the stage. I have to say, this was a slick and well produced video for a very catchy song.

Onto their evening performance, it was clear we were listening to a band that had been together a while. The connection between the three of them was evident, as was their musicality.

Three individually talented musicians that came together as one to provide a big sound with an equally polished delivery.

In particular, the bass and drums were fully in sync, with timing changes delivered flawlessly.

People were fully into the music and toes were tapping everywhere. Hats off to Leonardo Magri, Gabriel Johnston and Stewart Pedley.

Whilst the Town Hall low ceiling made for a challenging sound, the engineer did a great job, and it would be great to hear the band perhaps at an outside venue (hopefully over summer).

All in all, it was a credit to all involved putting the evening together. Great music and vibes,
plus a really nice family and community evening.

Well done all!
