Local Action – Sienna Moore (Gymnast)

Hi, my name is Sienna and I am 12 years old, from Thames. I currently go to Parawai School and am a Year 8.

Last year I was old enough to compete in my first year at the AIMs games in Tauranga for Gymnastics.

I’ve been doing gymnastics competitively since I was 8 or 9 years old.

I practised for AIMs games at my local gymnastics club – Thames Gymsports – and after competing against over 80 other girls with my coach Tash by my side, I placed 1st overall for WAG and got to bring home my first AIMs Games gold medal.

I started gymnastics so I could learn how to do all my crazy stunts in a safe way with help from a coach in a controlled environment.

I have placed in many competitions since Tash took over as our coach, and feel like I thrive under her hand.

I am very competitive and love all sports, my other favourite being athletics.

I am part of the Thames Athletics Club and compete every weekend during Term 1 and 4. I hold quite a few records here from around age 10 to where I am now as a 12-year old. It’s also something I love doing through school, and last year I placed 1st in Long Jump not only at my school, but in the whole Thames Valley and then again at Waikato Full Primary with a jump of 4.75 metres. I then went on to jump further with my athletics club, jumping a 4.79 m at Waikato/Bay of Plenty Children’s Champs and achieving 2nd in the 12-year girls’ division, amongst girls who are from big clubs with specific Long Jump coaches!!

I enjoy competing against other girls my age from around the Waikato and further, but my biggest competition is with myself.

I can’t wait to compete at AIMs again in September, another year older and with another year of training under my belt.

I’m also striving to hit the 5 m mark in my long jump during the 2023/2024 Athletics season.
