Local Action – Colville Green – Rugby

Hi, my name is Colville Green from Whitianga and I have lived here and gone to Mercury Bay Area School my whole life. My article is all about how rugby has impacted my life and how I have enjoyed it all. I started playing Rippa Rugby at the age of 5 in 2011, then went on to play the position Centre number 13 in my Junior rugby years for the local rugby club, until I tried a new position Fullback number 15 and played the majority of my school rugby in that position for MBAS 1st XV.

Colville Green and Coach

I have played Representative rugby, being chosen for the Under 45 kg Thames Valley Team in 2018 and then the Under 16s Thames Valley team last year. I really enjoyed being part of this and playing alongside other players from teams around the Coromandel areas.

I have played three years of 1st XV rugby. Our team had previously got into two finals, losing by only 2-3 points each time, but this year we made it count by winning the Coulter Cup Championship 32-14 over Thames High School. It was an honour to be Captain of this team – this is only the second time in the school’s history that we have won it, the last time being in 2010. We had an awesome coaching and management team to help us achieve this, so we are so very thankful to them all.

Going forward, I’m hoping to play for the Mercury Bay Marlins and it would also be amazing to be part of winning a final with them.
