Coromandel’s Collaborative Magazine

Kay Ogilvie

Kay is part of The Coromandel Arts Tour, which takes place each October.

Kay first felt the magic of clay when pottery was one of the subjects taught in the design course she was taking at Polytech over 30 years ago. She was immediately enchanted by the feel of clay, the way it responded to every touch, the heat and noise of the kiln being fired, and the buckets of sludgy glaze that would transform (usually!) into beautiful colors.

She is still as enchanted today, rarely having her hands out of the clay, forming it into platters and bowls, figures, dresses, garden pots, flowers, and much more.

Her studio is part of her cliff-top home and overlooks the Hauraki Gulf. She is completely happy sitting in such a beautiful place and creating work she truly enjoys. The studio is open to the public during summer when the sign is out, or by appointment.
