ALTBAYS.NZ: Cultivating Creative Connections in the Media Landscape of the Coromandel

In the heart of the Coromandel, where nature’s beauty meets human creativity, a media support company is making big waves.

ALTBAYS.NZ, a dynamic team of audiovisual professionals with over a decade of experience, is helping businesses and individuals enhance their online presence and fostering a vibrant creative community in the region.

One of ALTBAYS.NZ’s standout offerings is Altbays Table Talk, a rapidly growing podcast that has already live streamed over 200 shows. Each episode features captivating conversations with remarkable guests from all corners of Aotearoa NZ. What sets the show apart is its laid-back, genuine approach to discussions, creating an intimate connection with the audience.

But ALTBAYS.NZ isn’t content with staying still; they’re on an upward trajectory. Recently, the company unveiled a brand-new studio, elevating the Altbays Table Talk experience to new heights. What makes this studio unique is the colossal artwork the exceptionally talented JT Tahatika contributed.

JT Tahatika is an artist who has not only captured the imagination of the Coromandel but has also triumphed over adversity. After a traumatic brain injury from a work accident, he turned to art as a form of healing and self-expression. His journey of understanding and accepting his limits is an inspiring testament to the power of creativity in overcoming challenges.

JT Tahatika’s art is a fusion of various mediums, brought to life with sporadic bursts of colour and an unorthodox approach. His artistry extends beyond the canvas, encompassing painting, tattooing, street art and realism. As an avid advocate of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Repurpose, JT often scours op shops in search of unique pieces to incorporate into his creations, adding a sustainable twist to his artistic process.

What’s truly remarkable is JT’s passion for sharing his art and the joy it brings to others. His work has found a home in Hula Cafe in Whitianga, and his artistic journey has been featured in Coromind magazine (Issue 6). His fusion of art forms and his dedication to reducing waste align seamlessly with the values of ALTBAYS.NZ, making their collaboration a perfect match.

Leo, the curious and charismatic host of Altbays Table Talk, emphasises the significance of such collaborations: “Watching JT bring parts of his artwork across the ferry from Cooks to Whitianga, sharing stories and laughter while putting everything together in our studio – it was a special moment. We must never underestimate the power of art; it brings people together.”

Altbays Table Talk isn’t just a podcast; it’s a community-building platform. It’s currently the fastest-growing independent podcast in Aotearoa NZ, offering live shows every Tuesday and Thursday on their YouTube channel at 7 pm. Their episodes are also available in podcast format on all leading audio platforms, making them accessible to a broader audience.
