Each year during the first two weekends of March, passionate local artists from Tairua to Whangapoua throw open the doors of their creative spaces and invite the public into their studios.
The 2025 Mercury Bay Art Escape features 54 local artists with a diverse array of art on show including oils, water colours, weaving, glass, iron, clay and photography. Many of the artists draw inspiration from the stunning seascapes and land around them. Their creative process can also include local materials, such as clay from the potters’ own land, china treasures from op shops, shells and wood for jewellery and local sand for glass making.
The Open Studios are a highlight in the Coromandel summer Arts Calendar and a major drawcard, bringing visitors to the area eager to meet artists and view their talents. This dynamic, vibrant and high-quality art tour appeals to locals and visitors alike.
Artists’ studios are open from 10 am to 4 pm over the 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th of March 2025. Look out for the official blue ‘Art Escape’ flags outside artists’ studios.
