SoulSaxPlus are a duo who have always lived close to nature at Point Kirehe at the top of the Whitianga Harbour, East Coromandel.
SoulSaxPlus are a New Zealand saxophone duo featuring tenor and soprano sax, vocals, synthesizers, keyboards, tenor recorder, clarinet, alto flute, percussion and original sequenced backings.
Paul Lee: Professional musician for 30 years. Backing singers such as Al Hunter, Josie Rika, Tommy Fergusson, Sonny Day. Teacher, writer, recording and performing artist. Creative producer, SoulSaxPlus.
Jani Dennis: Music teacher. Music group organiser. Performing and recording artist, Soul Sax Plus.
Styles include popular soul, latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and originals suitable for concerts, festivals, parties, weddings, restaurants and other venues.
They have 5 original albums, one EP and one covers album available online on the usual platforms: Love Breath (Paul Lee), Green Rebellion, South Pacific Sunshine, Reach Out, The Bellbird’s Return and 25 years (EP) and a covers album called Take 5 with Soul Sax Plus.
Paul writes the songs and creates the backing tracks. His inspiration is mostly drawn from the beautiful scenery and birds of the Coromandel and his love for the land and also from historic events.
Soul Sax Plus had 2 successful tours around the South Island, but play mostly in the Auckland and Coromandel areas.
Jani and Paul are also members of the Mercury Bay Big Band and Dixie Band and have spent many years teaching music at the local Mercury Bay Area school.
They have performed at many local festivals including for 20 years as key members of the Prana Band, Ohui. They also organised and ran holiday music workshops for up to 20 students at Prana for many years.
