The Department of Conservation – Hauraki-Coromandel is gearing up for Seaweek—a celebration of our oceans—happening 1–9 March!
Join us for a week of exciting events and help make this Seaweek one to remember in the Coromandel!

1 March – Community Day at Buffalo Beach:
Join us for a day at the beach to kick off Seaweek!
Date & Time: Saturday, 1 March at 10:00 AM
Buffalo Beach esplanade, near the wharf
Bring the whānau along to learn about coastal ecosystems, become a marine pest detective, build LEGO® sea creatures and hunt for clues in our beach treasure hunt.
This community day is supported by Mercury Bay Museum, Waikato Regional Council, Southern Seabirds Trust, Coastcare, Mercury Bay Library and more.
3 March – Beach Clean Hahei, Cathedral Cove + coast– Hahei Explorer
Help clean up our beautiful coastline! Hahei Explorer are coordinating a beach clean to keep our oceans clean this Seaweek.

Do you love the ocean? Design a poster to let people know how we can take care of it for future generations. There are some great prizes up for grabs – including boat tours on Hahei Explorer, Ocean Leopard Tours and some snorkelling gear from Hunting & Fishing Whitianga.

Entries for all ages welcome. Entries must be handed in to Mercury Bay Library, Mercury Bay Museum or participating stores in Whitianga before Monday 10 March. Winners drawn by Friday 14 March.
Until 7 March – Build a LEGO® Sea creature with MB Library
Make a sea creature and be in to win a LEGO® prize pack with Mercury Bay Library this Seaweek.
– Build at home or use the Library’s LEGO® pit.
– Make a sea creature.
– Fill in the entry form, and give the form and your sea creature to the librarian at front desk at Mercury Bay Library.
If you have brought in a LEGO® creation from home, please make note of that on the form. It will be displayed safely and securely in the library display cabinet and we will be in touch at the end of the competition for your LEGO® creation to be returned.
