Nau mai, haere mai to our fun whānau day at Te Whitianga-nui-a-Kupe to commemorate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
This inaugural beachside event will feature an exciting line-up of live music from local artists and Mau Rākau demonstrations. Experience cultural performances and participate in Tiriti-focused workshops, sharing rich stories and histories from a local iwi perspective. Enjoy a variety of stalls offering delicious kai, interactive toi Māori, hauora services, and educational opportunities. There will be free rides and face painting for our young event-goers. This fun all-ages event is a wonderful chance for everyone to learn about the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi together.
This kaupapa actively promotes and encourages wide community participation by creating a platform for diverse cultures to share their experiences, stories and perspectives. We are inviting community members to engage in storytelling through various mediums, i.e. kapa haka performances and live music.
Who are we?
Ngā Tūmanako Whitianga Charitable Trust is a conduit connecting all things Māori to the people of the greater community of Whitianga.
Our Trust adheres to, articulates and advances our motto: ‘For the love of people through service as Māori practitioners’.
The overarching objective of the Trust is to ensure the people of our community have access to opportunities to live a ‘whare tapawhā’ life of connectivity to the environment, self and others. In essence, te whare tapawhā emphasises holistic well-being, integrating personal health with connections to others and the natural world, rooted in Māori culture.
