What makes the Hauraki-Coromandel region so special? At this time of year, it is common to hear, “It’s time to slow down and rest to prepare for the busy season.” I understand that; many of us work hard over summer, and now is a great opportunity to get out there and enjoy ourselves. If you are hitting the road, heading down south for a well-deserved break, or going overseas, have fun. And don’t forget to pack me, your favourite community magazine, in your baggage!
My words now are for you, the people who stick around. Maybe your job does not allow for a break at this time of year, or perhaps you appreciate the quietness of our region during winter and can’t think of a better place to be. Whatever the reason, I appreciate and salute you. I started this editorial with a question, and I know the answer! What makes the Hauraki-Coromandel so special is its people! Whether our region is quiet or bustling, without us, nothing happens.
Cold nights are perfect for being cosy at home, reading a book or watching a film, but maybe someone you love feels a bit lonely at this time of year. Why not set aside a night to catch up and have a laugh with your friends and whānau? Many of our restaurants and local businesses remain open throughout the year. Get out there and show them some love!
