Yin and Yang
One is day and one is night
One is dark and one is light
One is masculine the other feminine
One is withdrawal the other adrenaline
Yin is soft while Yang is hard
One likes to keep, the other discard
One is indulgent, the other moderate
From each other they are opposite
One is forward, the other behind
They are however deeply entwined
Yin and Yang are two being one
Much like the earth relies on the sun
Like a magnet and steel
It’s everything real
It gives us balance
Encourages our talents
It is not measurable
Yin and Yang is inseparable
Yin and Yang oppose yet complement
It is a cosmic supplement
Yin and Yang interchange and interplay
As old as the galaxies yet still is today
Where there is shadow there is light
At the end of each day comes the night
Yin is the sparkling waves meeting the golden sands
Yang is the pumping cities with all the food stands
The balance of Yin and Yang exists in everything
Through winter, summer, autumn and spring:

Matariki
As southern seasons spin their cycle
star cluster Matariki rises
birthed out of winter storm and darkness
glowing in the dawn sky.
Time to pause …
for remembrance, reflection, renewal.
Give thanks for the months gone by
farewell those taken.
Celebrate the now –
our lives and loved ones.
Embrace the coming year
with hope and rekindled focus
while waiting for the kōwhai to signal
that winter is releasing its grip.
