Learning to love

a dog

means understanding

it is not a human.

Centuries of evolution

and survival

dependent on eyebrows.

Evoking emotion,

5mm of white

Scleria.

So flippin’ cute.

Okay, you can

sleep

on the bed.

By Elvisa Van Der Leden

Reflections at the end of the day

flickering flames magnetise my gaze

glowing embers dazzle and spark

given a draught, the blaze fires up

voracious fire-fingers grasp and devour

mercilessly

in such a way, some people consume

those around them

vaporising all air/energy

blazing bright, overshadowing them

reducing them to cinders

amorphous, nondescript

– no phoenix to arise from such ashes
