Calming the Nervous System

Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy

Hi, I’m Rozemarije. I completed my study in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) last year. Although I was fascinated by the effects it had on my body, I didn’t know much about it when I started the two-year study with worldwide-accredited organisation, Body Intelligence. But I can say now that the results achieved by this therapy often amaze me.

The cool thing about Craniosacral Therapy

The diversity of health issues helped by BCST and the results people gain from BCST in only one or a few sessions are remarkable. The changes I have witnessed in others and the experiences I’ve had myself show me that this therapy is capable of healing some things faster than mainstream medicine can.

Some examples:

  • I have had a woman come in with an out-of-alignment lumbar vertebra. It had never really come right, and no therapy seemed to get it back into place. After one session, she was relieved that it finally felt normal again.
  • A woman came to see me with PTSD. She had flashbacks from a life-threatening event – shaking heavily in the night, being quickly agitated and with shallow breathing. In four sessions, her breathing was normal, she had no flashbacks anymore and her partner said her shaking in the night was gone.
  • A man came in with nerve pain that made walking painful. With two sessions, he was back running again.
  • Recently a girl came in for anxiety – her vision had got worse due to stress. After the first session, she got five metres’ vision back and could see clearly again from one metre onwards. She felt extremely relaxed after the treatment.

The list goes on. I have only graduated recently, so I’m keen to explore what the future will bring, the more experienced I become.

How can this therapy work for so many conditions?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy works on calming the nervous system. The body can rebuild itself and heal injuries, illness and trauma more effectively in deep rest.

This is important to grasp. In the environment we live in nowadays, a lot of people are not aware of the amount of pressure/stress that has accumulated in their body. They are used to it and so it’s their ‘normal’.

If you know that the body repairs and so heals itself when it gets sufficient and profound rest, you may prioritise exercises for deep rest a bit more. Repair only happens during deep sleep, in meditation and in particular when the stress (sympathetic) nervous system is switched off and the digest and repair (parasympathetic) nervous system is activated.

Research has shown that the physical age (this is measured among other things by how healthy your arteries and veins are) of people who meditate daily is dramatically younger (up to 10 to 20 years!) than for other people. BCST works with this same principle of creating deep rest and, in doing so, stimulates restoration and healing. But BCST is doing a bit more.

Light and reverential touch

As Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapists, we are trained to listen to and feel the movements that are happening internally in your body. We can feel if there’s stagnation or a healthy pattern in any particular structure. By listening to these restrictions and offering space, the body restores itself and finds its natural and healthy movement again.I can only say how I am sometimes blown away by the speed this can happen, especially when multiple misalignments are restored in one session. But also how I sometimes wish that the client on my table could let go of some conditioning or fear that inhibits the healing yet to happen. It will come with time, but we can’t force it.

Once the client surrenders, starts to let go and comes to deeper relaxation, this therapy has remarkable results. I always look forward to this.

  • BCST is a progressive therapy that embraces the latest findings in medical science and the wisdom of traditional healing arts.
  • BCST is gentle and noninvasive, making it suitable for babies, the elderly and everyone in between
  • BCST works on calming the nervous system, using deep rest to enable the body to rebuild itself and heal injuries, illness and trauma more effectively.
  • We focus on health, asking: Where do you feel good, comfortable and safe?
  • We optimise free movement of fluids and structures – In particular the CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) and cradle bones. By doing so, we release new or old trauma/injuries trapped in these structures.
  • Clients report feeling deeply listened to on all levels.
