Welcome to Altbays’ moment a round up of the best bits of the Altbays show from the previous week. In the edition we have Elvisa and Jesse van der Leden who are a creative duo who have played Dungeons & Dragons for 8 years with friends in Tauranga, New Plymouth and across the globe through platforms like Discord. Jesse has been using the internet since he was a child when his dad owned internet cafés and his Dutch grandfather brought some of New Zealand’s first Spacey Games to the country in the 80s. Then we had CATHERINE DELAHUNTY AND SHAKĒD FROM Catherine Delahunty and Shaked from the Basket. The Basket was set up to contribute to an environmentally and socially just Hauraki, through education, raising awareness, advocacy, and coordination, to meet the need for greater collaboration and partnership building between groups in the Thames and others across the Hauraki/Coromandel in the broad category of social and environmental justice. The Basket connects with environmental project groups and food security efforts, particularly supporting the Pātaka Kai free shop and distribution network led by Te Whāriki Manawāhine o Hauraki (women’s refuge), supporting local food growing and the Pātaka kai free community food pantry in front of Te Kura o Te Kauaeranga. The Basket delivers an education programme around understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and their long-term goals are to support and connect initiatives that build community resilience in relation to inequality issues such as housing, climate change, food security and sovereignty, environmental restoration, biodiversity, waste reuse and community-based education on themes such as Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
