A Memorable Meeting with a Kiwi Legend

The Day Amelia Met Olympic Star Lisa Carrington in Whitianga

Amelia was one of the lucky children who got to meet Lisa Carrington during her trip to Whitianga. Thanks to Ron Morgan for bringing such a star to our town. Lisa is definitely a massive inspiration for our tamariki.

This is what Amelia had to share after meeting Lisa: “It was really exciting to meet Lisa Carrington because she is one of New Zealand’s biggest gold medal stars. I got to see one of Lisa’s gold medals at lunch, and it was really sparkly and heavy.

She was very nice to me and signed my book. She told me to dream big and follow your dreams. Her dog Colin was one of the cutest dogs ever, and he was cuddly and fluffy. I really like Lisa!”

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Carrington continued her dominance in women’s kayaking events. Competing in the K1 500m and K2 500m races, she secured gold medals, further cementing her legacy as a powerhouse in the sport. Her dedication, mental toughness, and consistent performance have inspired countless young athletes in New Zealand and beyond.

Having Lisa in Whitianga and seeing her hang out with kids like Amelia shows just how much of a positive vibe sports stars can bring to the younger crowd.
