COROMANDEL SONGWRITING CAMP

COROMANDEL SONGWRITING CAMP

SEPTEMBER 25 – 29 @ The Monkey House, Whitianga.

Calling all young songwriters! Here’s your chance to hone your songwriting skills while learning from
accomplished musicians and producers based local and internationally.

The inaugural Coromandel Songwriting Camp is a free, five day workshop where young songwriters
aged 13 to 18 will have the opportunity to sharpen their skills and build on their creative know-how.
There is an incredible pool of talented young musicians across the Coromandel. The aim is to
encourage big dreams and to let these talented creatives know that anything is possible.
The camp has been made possible through the passion of a group of dedicated local musicians and
teachers and with a grant from Recorded Music NZ.

“Creativity shouldn’t be dictated by how isolated you are. Some of the most respected and
successful songwriters have come from small towns. Passion mixed with opportunity is a powerful
combination,” according to Camp Director Jodi Steele.

“Each day we will cover various aspects of the song writing craft while looking at ground level
information about how the music industry works.

“The aim is to share and create in a supportive, non-judgmental environment while fostering
confidence and increasing music knowledge. We are really excited to be able to encourage and build
upon the passion that already exists here on the Coromandel. ”

Guest presenters will also feature during the week to share their experience. These will vary from
musicians, music producers, record company execs and singer/songwriters based locally and
internationally.

Topics covered include: songwriting approaches; looking at the foundation of a great song; basic
pre-production techniques and structure ideas; defeating writers block through to different genres of
songwriting and the different music careers available. The week will finish off with a showcase
performance where family and friends will be invited to enjoy the week’s creative endeavours.

HOW TO APPLY:

The call is for interested songwriters aged 13yrs -18 yrs from the Coromandel. Spots are limited to 20
participants. Applicants will need to email in a short video of themselves playing their instrument,
